Fullscreen.com Video Streaming Platform

My Role
User Experience Design, User Interface Design, Front-End Development
Web, Mobile, TV

Fullscreen Media is a social entertainment company that offers a full suite of services and tools to content creators and brands to enable them to create and monetize compelling content to their full potential on video and social platforms such as YouTube.

Fullscreen Media's Streaming Service, simply called Fullscreen.com, was a paid subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service that featured Fullscreen original and licensed content catered to the young adult demographic. Original content included Electra Woman & Dyna Girl, Filthy Preppy Teen$, Kingdom Geek, and Shane & Friends. Fullscreen.com also incorporated social features that allow fans to create GIFs with captions (memes) from the video player to share on their preferred social platform.

While there were numerous video on demand services out there (i.e., Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, YouTube), Fullscreen Media recognized that the young adult millennial demographic was underserved. The millennial demographic represents the post-TV world, meaning there was more time spent on YouTube and social media via their mobile device than sitting in front of a TV flipping through channels. Millennials aren't on a schedule like traditional cable television — they want their content now.

Fullscreen Media wanted to fill the gap where traditional television and video-on-demand services are missing by providing original and licensed content on a video platform created and built in-house. By serving content on a platform controlled by Fullscreen Media, they had full discretion and freedom to do whatever they wanted, unlike YouTube, where Fullscreen Media had little control.

My Role

My role started as part of the front-end engineering team, where I built the user interface library using Sass and Angular amongst other web technologies. About halfway through the project, I transitioned back to the product design team (the role for which Fullscreen Media originally hired me). As a Product Designer, I designed for the web platform and helped create the initial version of a design system that consistently extended across mobile, web, and TV.
